She practically wrote me a hair prescription! I bought the build-up buster and b'leave in she used on my hair on my way out, and used them myself on my next wash day to fantastic results! I have since bought other devacurl products (super cream, no poo, decadence conditioner), and become a full devacurl convert! I THREW OUT all my other products! That's how much I believe in devacurl now! My 3C curls are moisturized, healthy, defined, and my hair has great shape and movement.If you're obsessed with your hair, then MUSE Hair Salons in Chesapeake is the place for you. I really like the layers she put in, and the bangs! But more than anything, Kathy is SO knowledgeable about hair! She talked me through every single thing she did, and told me what I should do at home to maintain it. I'll admit, I did lose a bit more hair in the cut than I anticipated, but I did have a LOT of split ends, so it was probably for the best. When she touched my hair she correctly diagnosed my problem as product buildup (which is why products would stop working) and gave me a solution-stop using products that coat my hair and leave it dry, and vulnerable to breakage! We went over my pinterest board of hair cut inspiration, and she gave me great feedback about what would look good on me. But my curls have never been better! When I explained the pattern I was in of trying products, then moving on to new ones a month later when the originals stopped working, Kathy knew exactly what I was talking about.

I was nervous, because this was my first professional haircut, and there's always a good deal of anxiety over whether or not a white stylist will know how to do Black hair. The "closest" salon was a little over an hour away. After 2 weeks going down a youtube rabbit hole, I booked a Devacut at the closest salon with a level 3 Deva stylist. I first heard about Devacurl from a youtube video. I did not get a mimosa or anything like that (was when this occurred). I’ll consider going back for a trim but that’s it. I went home, rewashed and styled my hair and the trim came out really nice but if I could go back in time I would have requested the cut alone, no wash or styling and maybe that would have saved me money (I spent $130). My hair dried very quickly (again light dense hair is what I have) and when it was over I left w a very 70s style fro. After the trim (which was great), wash and conditioning she sat me under the dryer on high heat. BUT, because I don’t have dense kinky hair that I assume Kathy was use to dealing with on African American women, she did a terrible job styling my hair. and a lot of the information I already knew from doing my own research on YouTube (shout out to Bianca Renee Today for the wonderful videos). It was wonderful to speak with her about products, curly hair, etc. Kathy was very nice and very knowledgeable about curly hair. Additionally I wanted to reshape my hair because it was growing uneven. I had lots of fairy knots and I noticed a little breakage/dryness on my ends that I wanted to get rid of. I have been on my curly hair journey for 1.5 years prior to coming to Kathy for a trim. I have normal porosity, fine to medium dense, color treated, 3C curls.
