This for me is actually ok because I always prefer privacy over ease. Even Apple News is full of snippets on upgrading to Catalina with caution. Perhaps we will know better in coming days. So I moved things over to Mojave laptop and it worked as usual.

In fact I couldn’t even make a Catalina bootable usb on a upgraded laptop. The macOS Catalina 10.15.1 update includes updated and additional emoji, support for AirPods Pro, HomeKit Secure Video, HomeKit enabled routers, and new Siri privacy settings, as well as bug fixes and improvements. Now luckily I didn’t upgrade one of my laptops and it’s still on Mojave.there no issues at all. If only a single USB storage device is connected, it will automatically be selected, else you can click on ‘Change’ to choose a different USB flash drive connected to the system. Next, choose the USB flash drive that you want to make bootable. On the Monterey machine, after hitting start, it prompts for the password for access. Works fine on a Mac with Monterey (12.2.1). This does resolve some issues but eventually SUDO is must from what I understood. Requirements / What you need A 2GB or larger USB stick / USB thumb drive / USB flash drive Press Command+Space Bar and type Disk Utility Format this USB. Step 4: Select the connected USB flash drive on BalenaEtcher. Appears to be Catalina (10.15.7) related.
This does make sense from a little experiment.I moved the ISO inside etcher.right click etcher and show contents.so path would look like this /Applications/balenaEtcher/Contents/MacOS/xxxx.iso. And Sandboxing has been made a lot stricter. From what I read from internet, Apple has stated specifically during launch of Catalina that NO APP including system ones can move data without users explicit permission.
I did that.even disabled SIP and still didn’t work. +1 same issue reported in 2933 (comment) still happening on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 with Etcher v.1.5.83 trying to flash -raspbian-buster-lite.img.
